Rudeles is a family winery and their vineyards are in Peñalba de San Esteban, in the province of Soria, at an altitude of over 900m. This eastern part of the DO is in the province of Soria and is less wellknown than the rest of the Ribera del Duero appellation. Our vineyards, comprising 17 hectares, are situated on the side of a hill which separates us from the main area of the Ribera; it is an array of tiny plots of vineyard, some of them planted with only 50 vines. Almost all the vines are over one hundred years old.

WINE MAKING NOTES

The wine is elaborated from 100% Albillo vines. Grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed, crushed and macerated for 1 day of skin contact, wild yeast fermented and raised in French oak barrels. Once its fermentation is complete, 33% of the wine stays on lees in barrels and the remaining wine is kept in stainless steel tanks for four and a half months. Wine is elaborated following the prescriptions of sustainable viniculture.

TASTING NOTES

The light oak ageing gives pleasant tobacco and vanilla flavors; This creates the final wine, balancing the oak complexity and citrus fruit aromas.

WINE MAKING NOTES

This wine is elaborated from grapes grown on 23 different plots, the number that gives name to this wine. Rudeles’ ancestors baptized each plot, which can be seen in the design on the label. The blend is 95% tempranillo and 5% garnacha from more than 90-year-old vineyards. Fermentation is done under a controlled temperature of 25ºC during 20 days. The wine matures for 6 months in French oak barrels, and once bottled is stored for one year before its release. Wine is elaborated following the prescriptions of sustainable viniculture.

TASTING NOTES

This elegant, velvety and award winning wine has a well-balanced structure. The oak is well integrated giving complexity and body to this refined wine. Black cherry with good depth of color. On the nose, intense, with a good balance between fruit and oak. It shows notes of fine wood, leather and black chocolate as well as pleasant dairy nuances. Full and powerful attack with good balance. A meaty, juicy mouth feel with sweet tannins. Long, lingering finish.
